Bay Pavilions is an exciting, award-winning development in Batemans Bay, designed for community experiences and will be Eurobodalla Shire Council’s top destination for arts, aquatics, and leisure activities. It consists of two main destinations – the Arts Pavilion and the Aquatic Pavilion. The Arts Pavilion includes a theatre, bar, gallery and studios while the Aquatic Pavilion contains a 25m lap pool, a warm water pool, a gym, water slides and splash park. The whole precinct is serviced by the Black Duck Café, a visitor centre and a retail store.

Council secured $51 million in grants from the NSW and Australian governments for the development. MBC Group were proud to be involved with this community project and were engaged as Principal Certifying Authority. This was a complex project incorporating a first for Australian construction using glulam timber (GLT) beams. Over 140m³ of spruce GLT beams treated with a coating suitable for pool environments were used for the aquatic areas. The span of the longest element was 33 metres, which had to be split into three smaller parts for transportation. The outdoor pergola features bespoke 3D formed GLT elements (beams that are freeform manipulated in two directions) as a representation of the nearby ocean waves and a nod to the architect’s mark on the development.

Construction was completed 27th April 2022 when MBC Group issued the Stage 1 Occupation Certificate. A final inspection was carried out by MBC Group on 2nd June after which Bay Pavilions was able to welcome the public in a Grand Opening on 4th June.
