Macquarie Data Centres’ second addition to the Macquarie Park Data Centre Campus ultimately looks to expand the overall IT load to 50MW. This significant development will be undertaken in phases to meet the needs of hyperscale clients, cloud and content service providers, and the government sector.

Phase 1 of the project was completed in 2020 and is known as Sydney (Intellicentre) IC3 East, delivering 13,400m² total floor space. IC3 East is Uptime Institute Tier III certified with a design PUE of 1.28. Additional facility certification includes ISO 9001, ISO 27001, ISO 45001, ISO 14001, PCI-DSS, SOC 2 I/II, and IRAP. The next phase will see the IC3 Super West development adding a further 32 MW of IT load, as well as lifting IC3 East from 10MW to 12MW, bringing the total campus IT Load capacity to 50MW.

The Phase 1 development comprised an extension of the existing data centre with ancillary office facilities. The four-storey portion was connected to the existing two storey building located on the allotment, separated by a fire wall. The scope of works included the fitout of the existing data centre, new construction of a plant room on the roof top, alterations to the plant room at level 1 and conversion of an existing plant room to a data hall. The erection of the compliant fire wall allows for a single building with mixed types of construction as permitted by the BCA. MBC Group were proud to be a part of this project to develop the capability of the Macquarie Park Data Centre Campus, providing BCA and Access guidance along with certification services.
