The ABC head office in busy Ultimo, not far from Central Station, is where several of the ABC’s most popular programs are filmed, including some with a live audience, such as Q&A.

The building was originally constructed in two stages and comprises a variety of uses including entertainment venues, childcare, offices, and storage. A feature of the building is a large atrium connecting ground to level 7.

MBC Group were appointed as the Accredited Certifier and Principal Certifier for a voluntary fire and life safety upgrade of the whole building. The existing building was subject of a number of performance solutions that had to be revisited as part of this development along with the development of some performance solutions.

The development was staged over a number of months to accommodate the continued use of the facility during the upgrade works, which added a layer of complexity but was satisfactorily addressed with comprehensive planning and input from all stakeholders.

ABC's headquarters in Ultimo is now renewed and will serve the ABC well into the future.
